Jason and I have been so busy filling 45 amplifier custom orders that we have not been able to build any 2A3 amps, that have not been already  spoken for. This is the first pair in over a year that we have offered on our web site. These are my thoughts and description of the offering.

In the late 1920’s the 45 tube was introduced it was a big hit because of the clean fidelity. But more as always power was wanted, so they put two 45 tube elements in the same larger glass envelope as a 45 tube, and in the 1930’s introduced the 2A3, It has 3 watts of power which is twice the 1.5 watts that the 45 tube has. We have never had a customer feel that our 45 tube amplifiers did not have enough power, but these amplifiers have it in reserve.

These chassis were hand made by me as the transformer requirements had to be changed to handle the extra wattage. I used two Stancor power transformers that have 3 times the MA as our normal amps use. I also used Stancor output transformers as the 2A3 tubes have different ohm requirements. These output transformers are designed for 8 ohm speakers. I then placed the Stancor transformers in iron cans made of special MU metal  and filled the cans with epoxy resin to eliminate the chance of noise from the copper transformer laminates. The MU metal covers cut the chance of transformer coupling.

The price is a little more than our normal amplifiers because most things on these amplifiers is a little more expensive.

These 2A3 class A single ended amplifiers have the same fidelity and great sound as our 45 amplifiers. The difference is they do have more power and more power in reserve available, even of you do not need it. It is hard to explain but not running the amps wide open and having reserve power seems to add a power to the music enjoyment.
